Matt Lofton No. 16 Chevrolet International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 Pre-Race Report

Lofton To Make Talladega Superspeedway Debut Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 1, 2012) – Coulter Motorsports driver Matt Lofton and the No. 16 Chevrolet crew head to Talladega, Ala., this week for the ARCA Racing Series’ fourth stop on the 2012 schedule – the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250.

The event will mark Lofton’s debut at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, as the Roxboro, N.C., native has never visited Talladega Superspeedway in his eight ARCA career starts. But Lofton and the No. 16 team are riding a wave of momentum, having improved with each finishing position in their three starts this season, and are ready to tackle the fiercely-competitive track.

When it comes to racing on the long stretches of Talladega, drafting partners are essential. Lofton will look to teammate Joey Coulter for advice and support in Friday’s race, as Coulter will make one of his few ARCA Racing Series starts in addition to his full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule this season. Coulter, the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie of the year, has three ARCA starts at Talladega Superspeedway with a best finish of eighth.

“I’m ecstatic about my first visit to Talladega Superspeedway this weekend,” Lofton said. “The No. 16, Coulter Motorsports crew is ready for an action-packed weekend and I can’t wait to experience the thrill of some competitive high speed racing.”

Lofton’s Talladega Superspeedway racing activity begins Thursday with practice from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and qualifying at 5:05 p.m. A final practice precedes the main event on Friday (10 – 10:55 a.m.) and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 will officially get underway at 4 p.m. (All times Central.)

Members of the Birmingham-based rock band Lynam will be special guests and honorary crew members of Lofton and the No. 16 team at Talladega Superspeedway. Lynam, comprised of artists Jacob Bunton, David Lynam and Cody Elliott, have been known to shake up Billboard’s independent charts with singles like “Tanis” and “Save My Soul.” Lynam has opened for bands such as Saliva, Fuel, Puddle of Mudd and Hinder, and also performed on the four-day “Motley Cruise” with Vince Neil.
